Purpose of the job


The Local General Accountant & Compliance is responsible to deliver IFRS & statutory reporting and ensure tax compliance for entities within Ecotone / Wessanen Group.

The successful candidate is responsible to ensure that internal controls and group policies are applied in order to ensure that the region’s assets are protected and adequately monitored. He/she is recognized internally as specialist on complex technical and financial or tax matters.

Main activities:

  • Process the monthly closing  & reporting activities such as monthly accruals booking ; fixed assets closing activities ; incomes taxes and deffered taxes calculation and accrual ; calculation and booking of provisions with close connection with the Benelux Business & SSC;
  • Work actively with the Benelux Senior Business Controller and the European SSC to improve the visibility and importance of Finance and Control within the region, ensuring buy-in from all other operational areas;
  • Bookkeeping of bank input or output not linked to vendor payment or cash received by customer managed by the SSC;
  • Bank statement reconciliation;
  • Internal (together with Senior Business Controller) and external reporting requirements are met;
  • Correct P&L and BS position of the entities on a monthly basis with the business controlling and the SSC;
  • Direct and indirect tax compliance within the region;
  • Intrastat compliance;
  • Setup/close/merge entities within the region if required by the company and liaise with lawyers, Treasury and Tax to achieve this.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Qualified Accountant with minimum five years’ experience in Finance/Accounting, preferably in a multinational company in the FMCG environment;
  • University degree in Finance, Business Administration or equivalent;
  • Local GAAP knowledge (country related) and IFRS knowledge;
  • Previous audit or tax experience (preferably Big 4 trained);
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office suite of applications, particularly Excel;
  • Knowledge of SAP and Tagetik tool is a strong asset;
  • Fluent in English and Dutch is required; French is a pre;
  • Key skills: the ability to work autonomously and accurate, with a strong team spirit and a pro-active attitude;
